The Biking Viking

OK, I have to admit my 51st birthday was a lot more fun than my 50th. Mostly it was because my wife, Darlene, and my team of colleagues at work went all out to make it a day (no, an entire weekend!) of celebration.

The funniest thing that happened was when I arrived at work on Monday (St. Patrick's Day) and found the entire building plastered with posters of me in a green Viking suit.

A Viking suit? you're wondering. Yes, I was more than a little perplexed.

When I arrived at my station my entire cast of colleagues were all wearing white tee shirts with this image on them. It felt like I was the leader of some weird cult.

They asked me: "So, just what is it about Vikings that you love so much, anyway?"

I shrugged. "Well, I guess they're okay. I mean, they pillage and plunder and all that." They all just looked at me funny.
It wasn't until later in the day that I found out from my wife that one of my coworkers had earlier called and asked for her advice about how to celebrate my birthday. "What does he like?" she asked Darlene.

"Well," Darlene responded, "he really loves biking."

I guess it didn't really come through in the translation.

But I got a huge laugh out of it, and now, I am known throughout World Vision as the Biking Viking. I'm even going to get a set of horns for my bike helmet for the next STP. No doubt people will get out of my way.
